It’s happening, It’s happening. 2015 Portals are at the printshop! For those of you who have been following my story through other means such as facebook, I promise to come back and write more blogs…here…it will be WAY better! I re-read my little daily photo blog of the trials and tribulations of overseas production…well that was a ride! But here we are back again with another year of Awesomely Hand Made In Australia garments coming out soon for pre-order.
Why does it all take so long? Somewhere there is a piece of paper tacked to a wall with a timeline on it that suggests I was going to do this process (new artwork, new limited edition print run, new garments) about 3 times a year. HAHAHA (in retrospect). Well you know, creative inspiration doesn’t just fall out of the sky…well actually I think it does… but life has a way of getting in there and blocking it all. With three business and a job and all the usual other western life stuff, I’m feeling like I’m about to explode at the seams whilst simultaneously melting into a puddle of goo in the corner whilst simultaneously adding up GST for BAS for the ATO in my brain whilst standing in line at the supermarket trying to decide what to cook for dinner. In this situation creative inspiration has to YELL IN YOUR FACE to be heard through all of that. Then there must be time to put said inspiration into practice and create. Once we’ve hurdled over creation, failure, re-evaluation, modification, frustration, further re-assessment, several proto types, many emotional ups and down (whilst life and dishes and walking the dog operate concurrently) we have hopefully arrived at something that may represent the original picture inspiration gave me...or better. Then leave some space for last minute ‘what if everyone thinks this is crap’ followed by some ‘I don’t care what you think moments’, a good dose of ‘I will positively manifest my future and you will love this’, followed by ‘shut up hippy’, possibly a few thoughts like ‘I think I should just get a job’…up, down, round and round and hopefully bursting through the other side with an idea, a design, a sample, some plans, some numbers and hopefully enough energy left to generate the cash required to make all of that reality! JUST DO IT…those sneakers say. FRIGGIN OK, I AM! HAHA
So this year InertG came through with the goods as always! The artwork is amazing! THANK YOU!!!
Voyager Screen Printing, Melbourne has prepped to make this vision shine in full UV reactive glory! My number one favorite screen printer took the time to patiently work through my neurotic panickings over whether this or that was the ‘right’ orange (as if the world might stop turning if we were a shade out) by letting me into the print shop for a paint mixing session. THANK YOU!!!!
I have designed some new garments with the expert advice and guidance of Linh at The Design Assistant in Melbourne. There’ll be a primo new Male Asymmetrical zip hoodie available this round. It’s a bit sleeker, with rounded hood, wide hem and wide cuffs with thumb holes. The classic Imago cut Male and Female pointed hoodies are back…because I still think they are the most comfortable, durable, functional and simply the greatest hoodies there ever was. There will be a knee length Pixie Coat for women that will be great for larger and bustier women. For cheaper options we will print on pre made garments again. Although this year I have sourced WAY better garments. Last year I chose the most ethically made garments I could find which turned out to be not the best quality (they’re alright but I’m a perfectionist), this year I’ve source ethically made Tshirts and pullovers that are also excellent quality. Yay.
So watch this space! Once again, there will be massive discounts for people ordering in the first round. Your first round orders help me pay all the relevant people and get this project rolling! So please take those discounts, there might be free stuff too!
